Asylees, Refugees & Humanitarian Migrants

Asylees and refugees are individuals who are unable to or unwilling to return to their country of origin because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.

The Los Angeles Office of Immigrant Affairs aims to support asylees, refugees and other migrants seeking humanitarian protection to navigate the services available for them and their families. Asylees are eligible for important public assistance benefits and social services when their asylum application is approved. Refugees are eligible for Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA), a cash assistance program for refugees without children who are not otherwise eligible for any other cash aid. RCA also includes employment and other social services to assist a refugee in becoming self-sufficient.
